Fact Friday: Dr Omara's and Dr Jopling's Book recommendations

Recently we had a parent ask what books our pediatricians recommend. Dr O'Mara has two that we thought we would pass along. She has two suggestions that both address different issues. Parenting with Love and Logic by Jim Fay and also Raising Cain: Protecting the Emotional life of Boys by Thompson and Kindlon. Dr Jopling also has a lengthly list that can be resourced by our website. Click here for his full list he has several books that can help with serveral different situations. Two books that he suggest are Raising Resilient Children and Change your Brain Change your Life

Have fun reading and if you read one of these books  and have a comment we would love to hear it. What books do you like? More book suggestions to come! Have a great weekend!

Organic or Not?

Eat your fruits and vegetables! The health benefits of a diet rich in fruits and vegetables outweigh the risks of pesticide exposure. Dr O'Mara recently found this website that will help you determine which fruits and vegetables have the most pesticide residues and are the most important to buy organic. You can lower your pesticide intake substantially by avoiding the 12 most contaminated fruits and vegetables and eating the least contaminated produce. Click here for the full article and use EWG's Shopper's Guide to Pesticides to reduce your exposures as much as possible, but eating conventionally-grown produce is far better than not eating fruits and vegetables at all.

Buy these organic:
Apples
Celery
Strawberries
Peaches
Spinach
Nectarines (imported)
Grapes (imported)
Sweet bell peppers
Potatoes
Blueberries
Lettuce
Kale or Collard Greens
Lowest in Pesticide :Ok to Buy
Onions
Sweet Corn
Pineapples
Avocado
Asparagus
Sweet peas
Mangoes

Introducing Dr. Kathy O'Mara!

This week's spotlight is Dr. Kathy O'Mara!

Dr. O'Mara was born and raised in Philadelphia. She has been practicing medicine for 18 years. She loves being a pediatrician because it is a great way to be around kids a lot!

Dr O'Mara has been married for 13 years and has two very active boys. One of her favorite things to do is to camp with her family.

Dr. O'Mara's favorite food is sushi! Her favorite book.....is the next one that keeps her up all night! Her hobbies and interests include running, biking, skiing and camping. One thing on Dr. O'Mara's "bucket list" is to do more international travel.

Dr. O'Mara is a huge asset to Willow Creek Pediatrics and if you can't find her in the office, check the mountains...that is where she will be! We love Dr O'Mara and know that all her patients would agree!

Dr O'Mara rides the LOTOJA

Last weekend Dr O'Mara and her husband completed the LOTOJA for the third time. The LOTOJA is a 206 mile bike ride that starts in Logan, Utah and finishes in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Dr O'Mara and her husband ride in honor of those that have battled Cancer. Her father-in-law passed away at the age of 56, and they have several friends that have lost the heroic battle of cancer. They also do it in support of our favorite SURVIVOR, Dr. Dennis Ashton. Dr Ashton has beaten pancreatic cancer against all odds and is back with Willow Creek Pediatrics helping kids every day. We are so proud of Dr O'Mara and her accomplishment for the wonderful cause they support. Great JOB!!
